John M. Buckman III Award Period Open

The Provident Insurance company is now accepting applications for the John M. Buckman III Leadership Award for 2010. The award recognizes a Chief Officer of a volunteer or combination fire department who stands out on the local and/or regional level as a true professional who has demonstrated leadership, integrity, and outstanding moral values within the fire service. The award will be presented this November at the VCOS Symposium in the Sun. In addition to the actual award, Provident will pay for the winner’s travel and lodging expenses to attend the award ceremonies at the VCOS Symposium in the Sun and VCOS will donate free registration to the award recipient. Nominees do not need to be IAFC members. Applications must be received by August 1, 2010.

Scholarships to Fund Travel to Symposium in the Sun

The VCOS is pleased to announce that we are now offering two different scholarship programs to deserving individuals who need financial assistance to attend our annual conference, Symposium in the Sun, in Clearwater Beach, Florida. The first is the VCOS-sponsored scholarship program which awards $1500 each to two individuals who can demonstrate how their attendance will benefit their professional development and will enhance their skills as leaders; the second is a brand-new scholarship sponsored by the Gasaway Consulting Group, LLC which will provide a $1500 travel stipend to Symposium in the Sun for a newly-appointed fire chief.
