International Association of Fire Chiefs

The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) represents the leadership of over 1.2 million firefighters and emergency responders.  IAFC members are the world’s leading experts in firefighting, emergency medical services, terrorism response, hazardous materials spills, natural disasters, search and rescue, and public safety legislation. Since 1873, the IAFC has provided a forum for its members to exchange ideas and uncover the latest products and services available to first responders.

We will provide career and volunteer chiefs, chief fire officers, and managers of emergency services organizations throughout the international community with information, education, services, and representation to enhance their professionalism and capabilities.

IAFC History

  • Founded in 1873, the International Association of Fire Chiefs is the ninth oldest association in the United States. The IAFC is a professional, member-supported organization with over 12,000 members, representing 1.2 million firefighters.
  • The IAFC supports the emergency services family of men and women around the globe. We listen to needs and respond to them quickly. We are proud of the firefighters and rescue personnel who serve us, and equally as proud of the work that we do and the programs that we offer on their behalf.
